It's finally over. 2020 is coming to a close. We knew it would but it seemed like it took forever to get here. 2020 is a year we will always remember.
While we know we will remember it as the "Year of the Rona" -- the year that things got so complex when our daily lives completely changed overnight. We will probably remember it as being one of the most polarizing, dichotomizing, hate filled election seasons ever. We may remember the binary thinking of individuals and the way that mean spirited comments flooded our Facebook feeds.
It's my hope, though, that we will also remember what we learned ... about ourselves, about what is really important, about each other as we have spent more time with our families than ever before. I hope we remember the resiliency of the human spirit and the ways that people worked together to help others. I sincerely hope that we can see that God has made beauty from ashes.
Personally, I will remember this year as the year that three very important people in my life left this earth. I'm still grieving the loss of some people who were significant colors in the tapestry of my life.
On this day each year, I remember this song from the play and movie "rent". (I know, I know, it isn't exactly going to make the PureFlix playlist, but it has some great music. It applies to 2020 more than ever.
The lyrics say:
525,600 minutes, 525,000 moments so dear.
525,600 minutes - how do you measure, measure a year?
In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee.
In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife.
In 525,600 minutes - how do you measure a year in the life?
How about love?
How about love?
How about love?
Measure in love.
Seasons of love.
I hope that we can measure 2020 in love.
